QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN READING TO YOUR CHILD, OR QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN YOUR CHILD IS READING TO YOU.

Literal Level Questions---

  • Who, What, When, Where

Interpretive Level Questions----

  • How, Why, Explain

Applied Level Questions---

  • How is this like what happens in our house?

  • How is this different than what happens in our house?

  • What do you think is going to happen next?

Keeping a Word list of Misread Words

  • On an index card, write down misread words.

  • Make word cards from half sheets of paper folded the long way.

  • You say the word and then have the student, trace over the word and say the word as the word is traced. Do each word three times.

  • Review the words each night.

  • Show the words and ask the student, "What word is this?" If the student mis reads it, have the student trace the word over the letters, then ask, "What word did you write?" If the word is still missed, tell the student the word and repeat the tracing three times.

  • Keep the words in two piles, learned words to keep reviewing, and words to practice.

NOTE: If the word appears on the sight word list on the next page, have the student say the letters as the word is traced.
